Apparently there may be life outside our planet. At least the possibility of life being able to exist outside our planet.

Comcast has reported that there are two very similar planets that have been discovered.

That's just too freaking cool.

Same story, same players, different week.  We're supposed to get 10 inches of snow starting tonight going until tomorrow night.  What a freaking ray of sunshine this "spring" has been.  By the time this storm pushes through we will have gotten more snow from two storms than we did all winter long.

Now for something completely different.  Cats...make that my cat seems to love straws.  Maybe she'll grow out of this, but I sure hope not.  She has found a straw on the floor and has taken to attacking it without regard for her body or the feet she may claw over to get to it.  Wow she's cute.

It is spring, right?  I mean...temperatures are supposed to be climbing, right?  Not getting colder and snowier, right?  Oh wait...I live in Colorado.  Seasons are just an idea around here.

We're supposed to get anywhere from 7 to 12 inches of it by Friday morning.  We shall see...

EDIT:  So far it's a light dusting.  Lauren's school is closed from them being proactive.  Which is nice.  I hate having to be reactive and not proactive.  This is as of 7 am local time.

EDIT #2:  We are up to 6 inches of snow.  This is as of 10 am local time.

EDIT #3:  10 inches of snow.  9:45 pm

Can't let the Golden Boy get hurt...

From Yahoo! Sports:

“We’re trying to make the game safer for the guy getting hit and the guy doing the hitting,” director of officiating Mike Pereira said.

Among those guys was Tom Brady, who injured his knee when hit by Kansas City safety Bernard Pollard in the 2008 opener, costing Brady the rest of the season. That tackle, when Pollard was on the ground but lunged at Brady, was legal last season. It won’t be in ’09.

Sorry Tom Brady fans...that's crap.  And the rule change would make me mad if the injury happened to Peyton Manning too.  They're so concerned with making sure their premier players don't get hurt in any way shape or form that they make absurd rule changes.  That's just about the stupidest thing in the world.  They didn't do that when Joe Theissman snapped his leg as far as I remember...

So  I managed to get my iPod to play through my surround sound system in the house.  I have one of those cables that allows you to plug your ipod into your car's aux jack.  Which I don't actually need because I don't have a car with that capability.  That's okay though.  I found in my office a splitter of sorts for speakers.  It has a headphone-jack and an RCA (you know the red white and yellow) out jack on the otherside.  Except it just has red and white.  With an iPod do you really need the yellow?  So I took the aux cable, plugged it into the iPod headphone jack and the other end into the headphone jack on the splitter.  I had some spare RCA cables in a cabinet under my TV and ran those to the audio in ports on the back of my surround sound system and turned on the iPod.  Voila!  Surround sound Lynyrd Skynyrd!  Really cool!

This was on MSNBC.com this morning:

ARVADA, Colo. - Police in a Colorado town say they've caught two alleged "thong bandits" who used women's underwear to disguise themselves during a robbery.

Nineteen-year-old Joaquin Rico turned himself in Friday, two days after 24-year-old alleged accomplice Joseph Espinoza turned himself in.

A surveillance video released last week by police in Arvada, Colorado, shows two unarmed men inside the convenience store. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes in the May 16 robbery.

One man wore a green thong and the other wore blue. Each thong barely covered the man's nose, mouth and chin and left the rest of his face exposed. One also wore a pink backpack in which he stuffed the stolen items.

I'm so tired of hearing about Roger Clemens.  Don't get me wrong I loved when he was a Yankee, but I'm so tired of hearing about him.  I hope he goes down in flames over the whole HGH thing and now he was apparently having an affair with a washed up country star.  It's all over the yahoo sports page, but does anyone really care about it at this point?  I know that I sure don't.

On a lighter note I went to game 4 of the Lakers-Nuggets series last night.  The Lakers won and swept the series.  It was pretty amazing watching Kobe Bryant take over at the end of the game.  Dude's just phenomenal.  As a basketball player goes that is...don't really care for his personal life.  Oh well...

It's gonna be on of those days.  Not looking forward to it.  4 inches of snow on the ground, streets are wet and slick and the girls are just not getting along this morning.  This is not going to be a good day.

Good Eats

So the missus and I tried a recipe that we saw on a Good Eats episode a while back.  It was from the garlic episode and Alton Brown made what he called "40 Cloves and a Chicken."  Now I realize this is something that my grandmother has made for me in the past, but I didn't remember the flavor of it.  It's a very simple recipe and SO good.  Although when I opened my lunch today I found that the leftover chicken from last night was WAY more than I had thought.  "We only have chicken breast left, honey."  "That's okay."  Little did I know that it was closer to half the damn bird.  Oh well.  It is definitely...good eats.

Those were the days...

So Lauren had her first band "concert" tonight. We found out about 2 hours before it was supposed to begin because the band teacher failed to add us to their email list. She's a fourth grade flute player and considering that she NEVER practices except on Monday when she actually has band she's pretty good. The band as a whole, however, is not. I never realized how bad the young bands sound to the listening adults.

I loved the fact that she was up there playing an instrument. I remember when I was playing a concert for the first time. It was great. I thought I sounded like John "Dizzy" Gillespie. Now I realize that I sucked. I loved every minute of it though. Totally worth going to hear my daughter play four songs that were like 20 measures long.

Then there was the show choir. They did this one number that was a little dance thing to Jingle Bell Rock. It reminded me of when I was in fourth grade and did a dance thing to Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree. I was taken back.

As I was laughing on Elaine's shoulder all I could think of, at that point, was when my parents were laughing their fool heads off as I was portraying W.C. Fieldston (Yes I know the real life actor was W.C. Fields.) in Jack, Beanstalk and Chicken in first grade. I couldn't keep a straight face. It was as though my life had come full circle. *whew* It was a fun night.

Holy crap it's bright outside.  Lots of snow reflecting lots of sunlight.  It's also been overcast for days.  I think I actually felt the optic nerve detach from the back of my eyeball they were so frightened.  Turn on the dark, I'm afraid of the light!

Winter Arrives Tonight

So after weeks of nice warm weather for November in Denver winter is scheduled to arrive tonight.  By the end of the storm tomorrow we should anywhere between 5 and 7 inches here in the Denver metro area.  And it's gonna be cold the rest of the week too.  High of about 49 today with temperatures reaching anly the low 30's the rest of the week.  While I'm not a winter fan per se, it's nice to actually have a little winter weather around here.

I was out at one of my learning centers today and there was this girl who must have been about 15 or 16 years old.  She was bored during their lunch there and decided to draw a couple of things on their whiteboard.  It took her all of about 2 minutes to draw the pictures too.

I had to take a picture of it.  I was just absolutely blown away.  And the staples thing was right after she used a stapler to fix the sleeve of her shirt.  I got a laugh out of that part.
